Wonder Woman Wednesday – Lucy Sherwood

I cannot wait to share this beautiful woman and her work with you.  I have my eye on all her stunning creations and will some day adorn myself with them all.

Meet Lucy Sherwood from Rock & Raw.

When you were a little girl, what did you want to be when you grew up?

Anything that involved making things, I loved paint and treasured my ‘craft box’ (A box filled with pipe cleaners, empty loo rolls, bits of glitter and stickers

What do you do now?  For work?  For fun?

At the moment I run Rock & Raw on a daily basis, whether that is designing new pieces, hand crafting custom orders or working on new projects. Most of the time you will find me in my workshop or sourcing the most beautiful stones from ethical dealers from the UK, Seville and Canada.

I have a strong spiritual practice which is a big part of my daily routine, meditation & yoga are a big part of my life. For fun I paint, hang out with my tribe, cook, pat my cat or indulge in beauty treatments (under the yoga pants I have an inner 1950s film star waiting to be set loose!)

How did you get into your area of expertise?

I qualified as a lawyer and worked in the legal world for 6 years. It never fitted me and I never loved it. Three years ago I found yoga and meditation. As this practice started to shape me, it became more and more clear that working in an office was not for me.

I’ve always been very fussy about my jewellery. I have to love a piece to wear it – and I mean a head-over-heels, oh-my-god-I-am-never-taking-this-off love. I mean a head-over-heels, oh-my-god-I-am-never-taking-this-off, love. After embarking on this quest to find spiritual growth, I looked for pieces that reflected my journey. But I couldn’t find things that resonated with me in that, never-taking-this-off way. Pretty soon, the answer dawned on me and it was beautifully simple: if the pieces I sought weren’t in the world, this was my chance to make them. And so I summoned up my courage, left my legal job and immersed myself in jewellery design training. Finally, in September of 2014, Rock & Raw was born..

What obstacles have you faced in following your dreams and how have you overcome them?

My biggest obstacle has been fear. It is not easy going from a full time, secure ‘normal’ job to running your own business. I was brought up in a family that valued ‘professionalism’ and job security. Most of my family are doctors or work in finance so for them and me this was new territory.

I threw my heart and soul into this business and I love every bit of this. In some ways this made it harder as there was no one who could tell me ‘hey girl, I have seen the future and this works out super well’.

The only way to overcome this was to learn to trust unconditionally. It was such a valuable lesson for every area of life-I am still learning and re-learning it every single day.

What’s the best part of what you do?

Being able to spread joy to others by enabling them to wear something beautiful, powerful and soulful.

What advice do you have for other women who might want to follow suit?

This is going to sound counter intuitive, but you really have to put your logical mind to one side and trust your instincts. You are never going to have it all figured out before you start and if you sit there thinking about all the ‘what if this happens’ then you are never going to do it.

If you feel that call in your heart and soul, listen and take the jump. The universe will support you in following your joy.

What’s your morning routine?

The first thing I do in the morning is dedicate time to my mind. I spend the first half hour or so of the day sitting in meditation, processing anything that has come up for me, tuning into my inner voice and focusing my mind on the inspiration and beauty that the day will hold.

At the end of the mediation I ask ‘where would you have me go, what would you have me do’ and I tune into the inner guidance which leads me to a creative and fulfilled day.

3 things that are on your ‘to do’ list today?

  • I am visiting my ethical gem dealer to collect 96 gorgeous vibrant pink rubies that have been hand cut to fit a custom made piece
  • A big post office trip to ship out some lovely orders
  • Making a huge mason jar full of green juice for my 5pm meeting about an upcoming event!

What are you working on at the moment?  Next project?

We have SO many exciting things on the go. At the moment my focus is on developing the new range (think crystals enveloped in fine lines of diamonds, chakra symbols with tiny rubies, sapphires, emeralds). We are also in the process of making stock for shops-it will be so exciting to see our pieces in stores!

ne woman you admire and why?

Any woman who is unashamedly the most authentic version of themselves.

Three wishes?

  • To always choose the light.
  • To have a conversation with my cat.
  • Health, safety and happiness for all.

Who do you turn to for advice?

My amazing, supportive and wise partner. He is incredibly calm and has such a rock solid sense of perspective.

Who do you turn to for a shoulder to cry on?

My partner again! He is the best

Favorite book?

My new fave is Light is The New Black by Rebecca Grace Campbell-it knocked me off my feet.

Favourite childhood game?

I used to wonder around collecting stones at any given opportunity. At the age of 5 I already had a small collection including one stone I especially remember. It was a red one and even back then I knew that stones had properties-I called this one the ‘fire stone’ believing it produced heat for cold days in the playground.

Fantasy career? Why?

Exactly what I am doing but expanded. I plan to hold Rock & Raw meditation circles amongst other things-there will be crystals, chakra cleansing and even Rock & Raw crystal infused water to drink.

Words for Monday motivation?

You got this.

#FeelGoodFriday song?

PINK raise your glass.

Favourite quote?

The crack is where the light gets in the best.

Thank you so much Lucy! x
